March 2024 Health Tips

It may not feel like it, but spring is right around the corner. And that means it's also time to spring forward with our clocks. While nobody likes losing an hour of sleep, try a few of these easy tips to keep you primed for warmer weather!

1 minute: Break out a new toothbrush (or toothbrush head for your electric toothbrush). The American Dental Association suggested replacing your toothbrush at least every three months, so chances are you're due for a new one!

5 minutes: Replace the batteries in your smoke/carbon monoxide detector when you set your clock forward. Get in the habit of doing this twice a year and you'll never have to worry about dead batteries again!

15 minutes: Clean your earbuds. Ever looked at the amount of gunk that accumulates on your earbuds? Yuck! If your earbuds have a removable silicon tip, pop them off and rinse well with warm water, then dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. Use a dry cotton swab or soft brush (such as a clean toothbrush) to gently remove earwax from the mesh screen of the earbud, then pop the silicon tip back on. Lastly, use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol or an alcohol wipe to thorough wipe the inside and outside of the charging case and let dry before placing your earbuds inside. If in doubt, always check manufacturer directions for cleaning your specific brand items.

30 minutes: Get a jump start on spring cleaning and get rid of all those germs and dust mites that may have accumulated on your pillows over the winter. Remove pillowcases and any other protective covers, then wash the pillows (two at a time) on the delicate cycle of your washing machine. Pop them into the dryer on low heat and add a tennis ball to help keep them fluffy. NOTE: Most pillows can be washed this way regardless of the material, but check the manufacturer tag on your pillow to be certain.
