El Camino Hospital's Heart-Felt Invitation to the Community

Mountain View, CA - February 2, 2012 - El Camino Hospital is extending an invitation to Silicon Valley to participate in more than a half dozen activities during American Heart Month (February) designed to educate consumers about the causes, identification and prevention of heart disease. All the events are free and open to the public.

Some lectures are targeted to specific audiences such as women and South Asians; others provide advice from experts about subjects ranging from knowing when to call "911" to heart-healthy dietary strategies. Back by popular demand is the hospital's ode to uninhibited, heart pumping fun, "Day of Dance."

Here's a quick rundown on all activities currently planned:

• February 3: "Wear Red To Work Day" (everywhere): Show your support for heart disease awareness month by wearing red to work, even if it's red socks or shoes.
• February 9: "Women and Heart Disease", 6-7PM, El Camino Hospital Mountain View, conference room G, (Jane Lombard, MD and Nurse Barb Dehns)
• February 14: Lunch 'N Learn, Learn Compression Only CPR 12:30-1:30 PM, El Camino Hospital Mountain View, conference rooms A& B (speaker TBD)
• February 15: "The Cardiovascular Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet", 6-8 PM El Camino Hospital Mountain View, conference rooms E & F (includes a cooking demonstration). (Neal Scott, MD, and Chef Jacques Wilson)
• February 23: "The Hard Truth about Heart Attacks in South Asians: Preventable?", 6-7 PM, El Camino Hospital Los Gatos, conference Rooms 1 & 2 (Ashish Mathur, executive director, South Asian Heart Center)
• February 25: "Day of Dance," 9 AM -12 PM, Addison-Penzak JCC of Silicon Valley, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos (registration required).
• February 27: "Signs and Symptoms of Heart Disease: The Importance of Calling 911": 6-7 PM, El Camino Hospital Mountain View, conference rooms E & F (Chad Rammohan, MD)
