Neurologic Injury & Illness

We provide comprehensive rehabilitation support and services for conditions that affect the brain and spine. Our care is designed to help you regain function, independence and well-being.

Rehabilitation is an important part of recovering from and living with a brain or spine condition. These types of illnesses or injuries often require a variety of therapies in an inpatient setting — such as therapies to help relearn everyday tasks, restore flexibility and muscle strength, and discover alternate ways of doing things.

The Acute Rehabilitation Center is a designated inpatient rehabilitation facility that offers comprehensive care for complex conditions, including:

  • Brain injury
  • Guillain-Barré syndrome
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Polyneuropathy
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Stroke

When you choose us for care, you can depend on advanced expertise from a team of rehabilitation professionals who understand the challenges of overcoming neurologic injury and illness. Our clinicians help you gain the skills you need to live as independently as possible. This expertise and commitment to our patients has earned the center CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation.

Therapy Types

Because the rehabilitation treatment plan is customized to meet each person’s needs, your care program will depend on your condition and abilities. Your treatment will incorporate a variety of therapies.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy may include balance and gait training or physical conditioning to improve range of motion, endurance, coordination and flexibility. Treatment may also include neurodevelopmental training, which can improve function for people who have difficulty controlling movements due to cerebral palsy, stroke or head injury.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy may include training in self-care, daily living and work skills, as well as practical skills to ensure safety at home and away. Occupational therapists may provide evaluations of home environments or make recommendations and provide training for adaptive equipment, such as a wheelchair or other devices. In addition, they may provide pre-driving cognitive and physical assessments to assure you can drive safely.

Speech-Language Therapy

Speech-language therapy may include cognitive linguistic therapy, which improves understanding and the ability to express thoughts. Therapists may also provide voice therapy — including Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT), a specialized therapy for those with neurologic conditions.

In addition to helping you overcome the physical aspects of your condition, your rehabilitation will include neuropsychology rehabilitation services to provide psychological and cognitive assistance. These services include both evaluation to plan treatment and ongoing assessment to track your progress. A neuropsychologist can also provide individual counseling to help you and your family members cope with your condition and understand what to expect.

Our Strength. Your Health.
