We were among the first facilities in the area to offer this advanced, minimally invasive surgery when we began offering it in 2006. Since then, we’ve performed nearly 10,000 surgeries. We Offer a Wide Range of Procedures

More than 50 highly trained surgeons across a wide range of specialties are certified to use da Vinci Xi robotic platforms. Our surgeons use it for:

• Gynecologic procedures. Robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery offers an advantage when working around confined structures like the bladder or for performing complex procedures such as hysterectomies or cancer surgery. Our surgeons use this approach to treat pelvic conditions such as ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, pelvic prolapse and gynecologic cancers.
• Prostate cancer treatment. Surgeons at El Camino Health can use robotic-assisted surgery to remove the prostate (prostatectomy) through just five small incisions. This precise, nerve-sparing procedure is becoming the preferred method for prostate removal after an early diagnosis of prostate cancer.
• Weight-loss (bariatric) surgery. Surgeons use this advanced approach for the vertical sleeve gastrectomy procedure, giving them greater precision and control. Also, surgeons can use this procedure on people with a higher body-mass index (BMI).
• General surgery. Our surgeons can treat hernias and conditions of the colon and pancreas using this approach. They can use the technology’s specialized Single-Site™ instrumentation to remove the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) through a single incision through the navel — with no visible scarring.

Hi-Tech Advantages

The da Vinci Xi technology gives surgeons many advantages over other minimally invasive approaches. The equipment allows surgeons to move the operating table, rather than shifting the patient, during surgery.

And, our high-definition da Vinci Xi robotic platforms use Firefly™ Fluorescence Imaging for exceptional imaging detail and quality. With the Firefly system, the surgical area is injected with dye so that the system's near-infrared technology can create real-time fluorescent images.

These images are more detailed than conventional imaging because:

• Firefly shows blood vessels and internal structures clearly. This can help surgeons operate with greater precision and makes it easier to find and repair tiny leaks before closing an incision, which improves results.
• For cancer surgery, Firefly can help surgeons identify cancerous tissue, allowing them to remove cancerous areas with greater precision and spare healthy tissue.
