El Camino Health Hosts Leadership Mountain View's Health and Human Services Day

Program aims to build community leadership in public and private sector

The 2022-2023 Leadership Mountain View class visited El Camino Health on November 18, 2022, to learn about our community's health and human services. Jon Cowan, senior director of government relations and community partnerships, welcomed the group and shared an overview of El Camino Health. Participants learned about El Camino Health's history, locations and types of healthcare services, legacy of technological innovation, high clinical quality, as well as its robust community involvement to improve health.

The rest of the morning provided a comprehensive education on healthcare in Mountain View and Santa Clara County. Fogarty Innovation, a nonprofit educational medical technology incubator, explained how they help startup companies bring innovative new devices to the market where they can benefit patients and healthcare providers. In fact, a number of medical technologies developed by Fogarty companies are currently in use or being studied at El Camino Health’s hospitals.

Attendees learned about broad healthcare services and policy issues from an interactive panel discussion with representatives from El Camino Health, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Foundation, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health and Ravenswood Family Health Network. The final healthcare services session touched on inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services. Later in the day, class participants visited human services providers such as Counseling & Mental Health Services, Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC); Community Services Agency of Mountain View, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills; as well as Hope’s Corner. These human services agencies are important community health partners of El Camino Health and the El Camino Healthcare District.

Each Leadership Mountain View class includes about 30 community members who are ready to move forward in their careers and service to the community. Members include representatives from the corporate and nonprofit sectors, healthcare and education, as well as business owners and those who are self-employed. Students also include city government employees, with top candidates chosen by the city manager. Additionally, this year's class includes two El Camino Health participants. All participants either live or work in Mountain View.

El Camino Health is a longtime partner of Leadership Mountain View and each year puts together a panel of speakers to discuss health and human services.

Mountain View residents and workers who want to learn more about our community and hone their leadership skills can apply to participate in future Leadership Mountain View classes. A new class begins in September of each year.
