Minority Health: A Year-Round Commitment

Minority Health: A Year-Round Commitment

National Minority Health Month focuses on reducing disparities and improving health — year-round priorities for El Camino Health and our partners.

April is National Minority Health Month, and the theme this year is Give Your Community a Boost! The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and partners are highlighting the importance of COVID-19 vaccination and boosters, as well as community-based efforts to advance health equity and improve health for all minorities.

Reducing health disparities and reaching diverse communities is a guiding principle of El Camino Health’s Community Benefit program. In fiscal year 2024, we invested $3.3 million in community-based organizations, safety net clinics and school programs to support health equity and healthcare access. Many of the programs aim to reduce health disparities across the diverse populations who reside in Santa Clara County. This issue of Community Connections features two such partners, Asian Americans for Community Involvement and the Cupertino Union School District School Nurse Program.

As Martin Luther King Jr. famously noted, "Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhumane." We have made progress, but correcting this injustice will take continuous vigilance and collaboration, and El Camino Health supports that national effort.
