MOMS Medical Director Serves on Panel at California Assembly Select Committee Field Hearing

El Camino Health’s MOMS director served as panel member at a recent Select Committee field hearing, providing insight on gaps in the ability provide needed care.

The California Assembly’s Select Committee on California’s Mental Health Crisis held a field hearing at Los Gatos Town Hall on December 14, and El Camino Health’s medical director of the Maternal Outreach Mood Services (MOMS) program, Nicole Tarui, MD, served as panel member, providing insight on gaps in the ability to serve people and provide needed care.

Dr. Tarui presented to the state elected officials and others in the audience, highlighting challenges with meeting the demand for mental health and addiction services, such as helping patients to access the right level of care, screening and linking patients to quality outpatient services which can be preventative, insurance reimbursement and other potential barriers that can lead to gaps in care. Assemblymembers had a chance to ask questions after the panelist presentations.

Assemblymember Gail Pellerin, who represents our Los Gatos Hospital, is passionate about improving behavioral health access and serves as vice chair of the Assembly Select Committee on California's Mental Health Crisis. Assembly committees hold field hearings to investigate issues, raise awareness and help generate potential legislative ideas.
