Providing Care and Services for Survivors and Families
To find a path to safety and independence, survivors of domestic violence need community support. One Community Benefit Program partner, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence, provides that support for residents of Santa Clara County, with a mission to "end domestic violence, in the moment and for all time."
In 1971, the organization's founder, Bea Robinson Mendez, enlisted friends to help provide much-needed services for survivors to help them get away from abusers and start a new life. She set up a shelter in a garage and established a hotline number to provide information and support to survivors of domestic violence. Since then, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence (NDS) has helped thousands of survivors and families find safety, shelter and support as they work toward independence and self-sufficiency. Today, its programs include a 24/7 hotline, help with shelter and housing, community and systems advocacy, support services and community partnerships.
Support from the Community Benefit Program helps the organization provide:
- Risk assessment, safety planning and crisis counseling
- Community and systems advocacy for individual survivors
- Self-sufficiency case management
- Therapeutic services, including group or individual sessions
Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence's vital services help improve behavioral health in our community — identified as a critical need in our 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment.
