El Camino Health Earns Platinum Performance Achievement Award

Mountain View, CA – For the seventh consecutive year, El Camino Health has earned the Platinum Performance Achievement Award, the highest honor available from the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry. This recognition highlights our dedication to delivering high-quality cardiac care to heart attack patients. El Camino Health is one of only 259 hospitals nationwide and one of only two hospitals in the Bay Area to receive the honor in 2024.

"El Camino Health is committed to providing evidence-based, top-tier care that saves lives and improves overall heart health, which is why we are considered one of the top heart programs in the nation," said Frederick St. Goar, MD, medical director at the Norma Melchor Heart & Vascular Institute at El Camino Health. "I am extremely proud of our entire team who made this achievement possible. This honor is a testament to their hard work and commitment to delivering the highest standard of cardiovascular care to our patients."

To receive the award, El Camino Health has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry for two consecutive years (2022 and 2023) and performed at the highest level for specific performance measures.

"As a Platinum Performance Award recipient, El Camino Health has demonstrated our commitment as a leader in setting the national standard for improving the quality of care in heart attack patients," said Chad Rammohan, MD, cardiac catheterization laboratory and acute coronary medical director at El Camino Health. "We take great pride in this national recognition, but the real reward is knowing that our team is helping save lives here in our community by using best practices to providing state-of-the-art cardiac care."

The award recognizes that El Camino Health has once again reached an aggressive goal of consistently treating cardiac patients to the highest standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

"It is an honor to award El Camino Health with the Platinum Performance Award for their valuable national leadership and dedication to meeting comprehensive performance measures in patient care," said Michael C. Kontos, MD, FACC, chair of the NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Steering Subcommittee, and cardiologist at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. "The receipt of this award indicates that El Camino Health remains committed to providing top quality, guideline-driven care for heart attack patients. Their success ensures patients receive the highest quality cardiovascular care."

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that more than 800,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot in a coronary artery partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle. Chest Pain - MI Registry empowers health care provider teams to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines.
