"Earning a 5-Star CMS Overall Hospital Quality rating for the third straight year is a testament to our nurses, physicians and other team members who come together every day to provide safe, high-quality and compassionate care," said Mark Adams, MD, chief medical officer at El Camino Health.
By using 47 quality measures, the CMS Stars program helps both the public to understand how healthcare is delivered and for hospitals to note areas of improvement. The overall hospital rating ranges from 1 to 5 stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures of mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging.
Of the 47 measures in the report, El Camino Health met or exceeded the national mean scores in 24 measures including 30-day mortality rate for heart failure, readmission rate for outpatient surgery and total hip and knee replacement, and central-line associated bloodstream infection.
