El Camino Hospital announced the appointment of Mark Adams, MD, FACS, to the position of chief medical officer. He joined the hospital as interim chief medical officer in April of this year.
The chief medical officer is the executive leader responsible for clinical quality and patient safety, physician relations and medical staff leadership development at both hospital campuses in Mountain View and Los Gatos. Dr. Adams will play a critical role in integrating care across the inpatient, outpatient and post-acute care settings and lead our work to improve patient safety, quality, and clinical effectiveness. In addition, he will collaborate with the medical staff to streamline processes and organize its structure to enhance effectiveness and the delivery of care. He also will help advance the vision for patient and family experience and partner on the use of transforming technology to support and enhance patient care.
"Dr. Adams has more than 30 years of diverse healthcare experience and is a seasoned chief medical officer. His focus on quality, accountability and process improvement, along with his considered approach to working with physicians and clinicians, has already positively impacted our efforts to care for patients and families” said Dan Woods, chief executive officer at El Camino Hospital.
A board-certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Adams previously served in executive positions for SSM Health in Saint Louis, Missouri and PeaceHealth in Vancouver, Washington where he had system oversight of quality, safety, regulatory, informatics in hospitals and clinics. Dr. Adams received his bachelor’s degree and medical degree from University of Pennsylvania.
