El Camino Hospital Los Gatos Rehabilitation Center Provides Acute-Care Therapy to Community

Los Gatos, CA - June 30, 2010 - El Camino Hospital Los Gatos today announced the launch of its 30-bed inpatient Rehabilitation Center, providing comprehensive intervention for patients affected by neurological disorders such as stroke, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and spinal cord injuries, as well as those with complex orthopedic disorders.

The new center, which opened on June 28, is one of only three in the West Valley/San Jose area. The center offers a full range of rehabilitative services, from rehab medicine and nursing to interdisciplinary therapies. Its rehab nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists bring a wealth of experience in restoring basic capacities necessary for day-to-day functioning.

"Our goal is to provide our patients with experienced and compassionate care to help them regain as much function and independence as possible," said Mario G. Giorgianni, MD, a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation who will serve as the center's medical director.

"Rehabilitation is a team effort and we strive to make sure patients and their families are part of the team," he said. "We also emphasize follow-up with our patients after they leave the Rehabilitation Center to help ensure a positive outcome. Our focus is to provide the kind of comprehensive rehabilitation care that leads to sustained improvement, resulting in greater physical function, self care and quality of life."

Dr. Giorgianni has served as medical director for many programs, including the Community Hospital Rehabilitation Center at Los Gatos as well as renowned programs at St. Luke's Rehabilitation Institute in Spokane, Wash. and the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

"At a time when the need is growing significantly due to the aging of the population, El Camino Hospital considers it critical to be able to provide such an important resource to the community--one that supports our holistic approach to patient care and is indicative of the hospital's commitment to the community of Los Gatos," said Dr. Giorgianni. "Our job is to help patients regain as much function and independence as possible, so they can get back to enjoying their everyday lives."

The Rehabilitation Center benefits from a partnership between El Camino Hospital and RehabCare, a leading national provider of post-acute care services. Their collaboration combines El Camino Hospital's highly skilled nurses, who are trained to work with rehabilitation patients, with RehabCare's reputation for outstanding administration, rehabilitation techniques and case management. Both El Camino Hospital and RehabCare are acknowledged leaders in the use of health information technology to ensure patient safety. By investing in this state-of-the-art program, El Camino Hospital has again demonstrated its commitment to providing services which the community needs.

The center is located on the El Camino Hospital Los Gatos campus at 355 Dardanelli Lane, Los Gatos. To obtain high-resolution photos or to schedule a tour, please contact Don Frances at 650-988-3268.
