Mountain View, CA - November 11, 2009 - Daphne Luong, a Community Advisory Board member for El Camino Hospital Women's Hospital, has been honored with the first Silicon Valley Women@Microsoft's Women's Inspiration Award, presented at the organization's award ceremony October 28, 2009.
Luong, a Principal Development Manager of Platform Services Engineering for Tellme voice application networks, has worked at five startups over her career. She is a mother of three who combines her passion for technology with a strong interest in art, music and women's health. She volunteers as an art teacher for K-6th graders at the local public schools and as a music teacher through the Music for Minors program, teaching up to 100 kids a week in the mornings before work. She has coached FIRST Lego teams for competitions and led Communication Leadership Workshops for high school students.
Of her El Camino Women's Hospital Advisory Board service, Luong says, "Between my mom and three children ranging from age 14 to 2 years, I'm interested in health care concerns that span the age spectrum--particularly women's health. Women tend to put up with more pain than men without complaining, especially in Asian cultures. This can lead to their not seeking needed care. I want to help promote greater awareness among women of the vast medical knowledge and resources available in our local medical community to maintain and improve their health."
The Women's Hospital Community Advisory Board includes 30 individuals who advise hospital administration on the development of an innovative and comprehensive women's health service line, and identify community and corporate alignment opportunities.
