Outpatient Pharmacy Opens at El Camino Hospital’s Mountain View Campus

On May 2, 2018, El Camino Hospital opened an outpatient Pharmacy in the lobby of the Mountain View main hospital building. Patients and community members now have the opportunity to fill prescriptions upon leaving the hospital or doctor’s office. Pharmacy services include one-on-one consultations with a pharmacist, full inventory of prescriptions and over-the-counter items, and a prescription management program.

“We’re dedicated to pursuing excellence in the way we deliver care to our patients. Opening an on-site pharmacy that is integrated with our systems and care teams not only enhances services but can help promote medication regimen adherence and decrease adverse drug interactions which leads to improved patient outcomes,” says Cheryl Reinking, chief nursing officer of El Camino Hospital.

The Pharmacy is staffed by registered pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians who use the latest innovations in pharmacy technology to fill prescriptions both safely and efficiently. All major insurance plans are accepted and pricing is competitive with other neighborhood pharmacies. Individuals do not need to be a patient of the hospital to utilize pharmacy services. The Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

What does this mean for patients?

Our on-site pharmacy offers convenience and peace of mind to patients so they can leave the hospital with their prescriptions and over-the-counter items. Taking prescribed medications is an important part of the recovery process and staying healthy. With our bedside prescription delivery program, our pharmacy team works closely with the patient’s doctors and nurses to coordinate discharge needs. Our care team will gather prior authorization, confirm doses and get instructions on how to take medications. They will review current medications and discharge prescriptions to prevent errors, duplications or drug interactions. We make sure patients have all the information needed to manage their health and take their medicines properly before leaving the hospital.
