The sixth annual Sapphire Soirée, a gala benefit for the Cancer Center at El Camino Hospital, will be held on May 21, 2016 at the Menlo Circus Club in Atherton. Michele Kirsch, and Nahid Aliniazee are co-chairs of El Camino Hospital Foundation’s signature event. The black tie affair, which is attended by 500 community members, physicians, and hospital supporters each year, will feature dinner, a live auction, fund-in-need appeal, and celebrity musical entertainment. The event has raised more than $2.5 million for the Cancer Center since 2011.
Proud of its accreditation by the Commission on Cancer in 2013, gratified by documented survival outcomes that meet or exceed national trends, and well settled into its spacious new home in the Oak Pavilion, the Cancer Center will use proceeds from Sapphire Soirée 2016 to continue strengthening and building the remarkable program that serves our community so well. Funds raised will be used to provide ongoing support for the Cancer Center’s patient-centered programs. This includes formally addressing the psychological distress cancer causes patients and family members; implementing research initiatives that advance cancer prevention and early detection; education and outreach efforts directed at keeping our community cancer healthy; direct, compassionate hospice and palliative care sensitive to each patient’s goals; and financial assistance for patients in need and overwhelmed by their health care costs.
In past years, the elegant affair has raised funds to launch the patient navigation program, build the Pamela and Edward Taft Healing Space, establish a dedicated survivorship program, and create a formal Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Program.
