Sherrie is a model of exceptional nursing care. She’s compassionate, thoughtful, and attentive to patient needs. New moms love having her help them through their first days of motherhood, and her commitment to her work has served as an inspiration to her coworkers.
”I absolutely love taking care of new moms and babies,” she says.” There is nothing like watching the bond between a newborn and parents develop in those hours and days after birth. Often I leave work with the feeling of not only making a difference in someone’s life, but also the feeling that they touched my life, too. We get a lot of hugs in the Mother-Baby unit!”
Sherrie’s passion for nursing was ignited at an early age. “When I was 16, a friend of mine got a job as a nursing assistant at a nursing home. She encouraged me to also get a job there. This is where I first felt the positive impact of helping those that I cared for.” Later, she joined the maternity unit at El Camino Hospital. “The moment I came here, almost 30 years ago, I knew I was home.”
Sherrie is a superstar on the Mother-Baby team. She was one of the first in her unit to become certified as a maternal newborn specialist. She also received the Caring Nurse award as part of El Camino Hospital’s Employee Excellence Awards. “To be recognized for doing a job that brings me so much joy is an extraordinary feeling. El Camino Hospital has so many caring, compassionate nurses, and they are all deserving of this award. It’s an incredible honor.” Despite this recognition, she remains grateful and humble for the opportunity to do what she loves.
That positive energy is contagious. It’s something Sherrie sees every day with her colleagues. “I believe the sense of teamwork, with the common goal of putting patients first, is what makes El Camino Hospital a wonderful place to work. Each team contributes to providing the best experience possible for the patient.”
