Imaging Wellness Screenings
When you know about your health risks, you can make changes to help prevent disease before it starts. Wellness screenings can also find problems early, when they’re most easily treated.
El Camino Health is committed to helping you stay healthy by keeping you well-informed and offering a variety of wellness offerings. Whether it’s a mammogram to look for signs of breast cancer, bone density screening to check for osteoporosis or other advanced imaging tests, we’re committed to your good health.
Our imaging specialists use noninvasive computed tomography (CT) screening technology to check the health of your heart and lungs. Screenings are fast — about 15 minutes — and painless. You need a referral for the tests, so talk to your doctor to find out if screening is right for you.
CT Heart Calcium Score
This test checks for a buildup of plaque — made up of fat, calcium and other substances — which narrows your arteries and causes heart disease. This exam tells your doctor if you're at risk for a heart attack before you have any symptoms, such as chest or back pain or tingling in your arms. Your doctor may recommend screening if you have a moderate risk of heart disease based on your risk factors.
Total cost: $156
Low Dose CT Lung Cancer Screening
Lung cancer doesn't usually cause symptoms until it's too late to be treated. Screening can help find lung cancer when it's treatable. This test can identify signs of lung cancer before you have any symptoms, such as a persistent cough, chest pain, wheezing or hoarseness. Your doctor may recommend screening if you're over 55 and have a history of heavy smoking (the equivalent of a pack a day for 30 years).
Total cost: $176
Talk to your insurance provider to find out if screening is covered under your plan. If screening is not covered, you may be eligible for a free screening. Learn more.
