Members Meet New Breast Surgeon

A Taste of Chocolate for H2H

Hope to Health members learned about chocolate and met the Cancer Center’s new breast surgeon during a delectable, fun, educational gathering at Timothy Adams Chocolates in Palo Alto on October 10. Small groups of women took turns in the shop’s cozy demonstration kitchen, where proprietor Timothy Adams conducted a tasting of international chocolates and showed them how to roll chocolate ganache into delicious bonbons. Members and their guests mingled, sipped Prosecco, and nibbled on cheese and fruit while they waited their turn for the delightful class.

Dr. Tran Ho, a surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer and benign breast disease, noted that breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States. One in eight women will be diagnosed with invasive disease. "Know your risk factors," she urged. "Some we can control, some we can't." In addition to eating a healthy diet and exercising she recommended regular screenings that are tailored to each woman's risk. "The field is moving forward," Dr. Ho said, citing advancements in diagnosis and more targeted, personalized treatment. "There is so much hope. People are living and thriving after a diagnosis of breast cancer."
