Your Unrestricted Gifts at Work

Unrestricted gifts to El Camino Health Foundation are pooled together in the El Camino Fund and allocated two times per year to meet the greatest emerging needs across the health system.
Your Unrestricted Gifts at Work

They fund innovative pilot projects, the purchase of new equipment and technologies, nursing excellence initiatives, and compassionate services like music and art that our hospitals provide free of charge. In June, El Camino Health Foundation allocated $457,000 of unrestricted donations to support a variety of programs and services at El Camino Health to bolster patient care:

  • Healing Arts Program – Funding to relieve the stress and anxiety of the hospital experience on the Mountain View and Los Gatos campuses through soothing, live music in public areas, medical units, and patient rooms, and the therapeutic properties of art at the bedside. The Healing Arts Program is funded in equal parts by El Camino Health and donations to El Camino Health Foundation.
  • NICU Family Coordinator – Funding for a staff person to help advance family-centered care. Among other responsibilities they will manage the Family Buddy Program (parent mentorship); act as a liaison between NICU families and members of the healthcare team; assess and assist with discharge needs; provide oversight and support for NICU volunteers (cuddlers); help organize the NICU reunion; and organize social gatherings for current NICU families.
  • Cardiac Monitors – Funding to purchase 8 cardiac monitors for use during high-census periods to provide appropriate monitoring to patients when traditional bed spaces are unavailable.
  • Additional Disaster Supply Trailer – Funding to purchase an additional disaster supply trailer that will serve as a mobile hub for storing essential supplies and equipment to augment the hospital’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
  • QOPI Readiness Assessment – Funding to hire Registry Partners to assess the Cancer Center’s readiness to apply for Quality Oncology Practice Initiative certification from the American Society of Clinical Oncology. This certification ensures adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines promoting best practices in oncology treatment regimes and provides a benchmark for El Camino Health oncology services against national standards.
  • Temporary Magnet Document Coordinator – Funding to hire a part-time person to support the Magnet program director in writing the extensive American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet document and to coordinate the Magnet site visit.
  • Chinese Health Initiative Mental Health Awareness – Funding to develop a digital mental health guide that will serve as a user-friendly, single source of information covering topics including stress management, social connections, managing life transitions to promote emotional wellbeing, and information, tools and guidance for individuals facing mental health challenges.
  • ASPIRE “Day in the Life” Film Development – Funding to create a film that provides a comprehensive and empathetic view into the experiences of patients and families that participate in the ASPIRE program. The aim is to demystify the program, alleviate fears, and provide clear, relatable information that can help potential patients and their families make informed decisions about participating in the youth and young adult intensive outpatient mental health program.

All programs that receive funds are vetted by the health system’s executive leadership to ensure they advance the organization’s strategic objectives and evaluated by the Foundation Allocations Committee to make sure they are an appropriate use of donations.
