Holiday Health Tips

Holiday 2018 Health Tips

Take a few minutes to stay healthy and safe this holiday season with these quick tips.

1-Minute Tip: Monitor your alcohol consumption. There are plenty of occasions to have a drink with family and friends during the holidays—just make sure you do so responsibly. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans defines moderate alcohol consumption as one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated while imbibing as well.

5-Minute Tip: Cook and store leftovers safely. We all love holiday leftovers, but it’s important to make sure they’re stored and heated properly. Be sure to refrigerate your leftovers within two hours of cooking. When reheating, check the temperature of the food in several places to be sure it’s cooked through.

15-Minute Tip: Check for safety hazards as you decorate. When hanging decorations out of your normal reach, use a ladder with someone holding the base. Also, make sure you don’t overload electrical outlets with multiple high-wattage appliances.

30-Minute Tip: Stay active. With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s easy to eat more and exercise less during the winter months. Find simple ways to stay active every day, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or going on a walk with your family.
